U-turn on Planned Use of Ballinrobe Hotel for International Protection Applicants January 7, 2024 Admin Irish News </p> <h2>U-turn on Planned Use of Ballinrobe Hotel for International Protection Applicants</h2> <p> In the past few days it emerged that the former JJ Gannons Hotel in Ballinrobe, Co Mayo was going to be used to house 50 male international protection applicants.</p> <p>There was a huge push back from local people, who have been staging a constant 24/7 presence at the building since news broke.</p> <p>Today it was reported by Mayo Fine Gael Councillor, Micheal Burke, that as of this morning, the ‘lease is withdrawn for the current proposal’.</p> <p>Although locals are delighted with the news, they are planning to maintain their presence for the coming days as there is still scepticism.</p> <p>Councillor Micheal Burke seems to be accepting praise for his efforts but don’t be fooled. Burke is the same man who acted to shut down a Special Meeting of Mayo County Council last year to discuss the fallout of mass immigration into Mayo. He cannot be trusted.
