Wexford, Ireland 1997</h2> <p> Production of the Stephen Spielberg film ‘Saving Private Ryan’ takes place on a Wexford beach.</p> <p>Members of the Reserve Defence Force dressed in Second World War US Army uniforms and carrying weapons from the period marching for their part in a £40 million Steven Spielberg war epic. Curracloe Beach is the location for recreating the D-Day landings at Omaha Beach, Normandy, during the Second World War for the film ‘Saving Private Ryan’.</p> <p>Lieutenant Colonel Pierce McCorley talks about the nature of the production of a film which depicts one of the bloodiest battles in history. Denis Cloney, who owns the land on which the filming is taking place, explains how he it from a German in 1960.</p> <p>Producer Ian Bryce says Stephen Spielberg is very pleased with what they have been able to create at the location during filming.</p> <p>‘Saving Private Ryan’ went on to win five Oscars, including Best Director for Steven Spielberg.</p> <p>An RTÉ News report broadcast on 3 July 1997.
