March 6, 2025 Admin Politics </p> <h2>What is the Triple Lock and what changes are the Government proposing?</h2> <p> Under the current system, Ireland cannot send more than 12 Defence Forces on a peacekeeping mission without approval from all three parts of the lock. This includes Dáil approval, Government approval and UN approval.<br /> Government sources stated the proposed changes remain “fully consistent with the principles of the UN Charter and international law”.<br /> The Dáil and the Government will still have to approve missions.
