IRELAND – A patient at a hospital in Cork was seriously injured in an assault on Sunday, just before the arrival of the Minister for Health for a scheduled visit.
The assault took place outside Mercy University Hospital in Cork city at around 9.30am on Sunday. A patient, a man in his 50s, was attacked and then taken back into the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
A man, also aged in his 50s, was arrested at the scene. The assault occurred just minutes before Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill arrived at the Mercy hospital for a scheduled visit.
