Heather Humphreys has conceded Independent candidate Catherine Connolly will be Ireland’s next president.
Speaking at her local count centre at Ballyhaise, Co Cavan, Ms Humphreys said Ms Connolly will be a president for all.
“First of all I want to thank all of the people who voted for me, especially the people of Cavan and Monaghan who have really turned out in huge numbers to support me,” she said.
“I want to congratulate Catherine [Connolly] on becoming the next president of Ireland and can I just say, Catherine will be a president for all of us and she will be my president.
“I would like to wish her all the best.”
