Ireland’s World Cup play-off fate has been revealed after days of speculation and permutations.
This afternoon’s draw at Fifa headquarters in Zurich has landed the Boys in Green a tasty semi-final encounter away to Czechia on March 26, with a generous home match in the final against either Denmark or North Macedonia five days later, if we are so lucky.
One week ago today, it was a pipe dream that Ireland could even feature in the play-offs for next year’s World Cup, given the team’s abysmal start to the qualifying campaign under manager Heimir Hallgrimsson.
