In this special edition of Indo Politics, recorded at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, MEP Billy Kelleher sits down with Irish Independent Political Editor Mary Regan.
In his first in-depth interview since the Irish presidential election ended, Kelleher gives his thoughts on the process that saw Jim Gavin beat him to the Fianna Fáil nomination before dramatically withdrawing from the Áras race just weeks later. The former TD for Cork North-Central also answers the question on whether he thinks could have beat Catherine Connolly if given the opportunity.
With a review now underway into Fianna Fáil’s disastrous presidential campaign, we hear whether he thinks fellow Corkman’s Micháel Martin’s leadership on the party is under threat.
Other areas covered are the Irish public’s present day stance on Europe, the EU’s handling of the conflict in Gaza, and Russian involvement in European elections.
