Social media is believed to have played a pivotal role in how events at Citywest escalated into multiple nights of rioting following the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in the early hours of Monday.
A protest in response to the alleged assault – for which a 26-year-old man has been charged with in court – took place outside the Citywest Hotel that night, where a smaller crowd than would be seen over the coming days gathered on the road outside the hotel.
