Irish Oscar-winning actress Brenda Fricker has been remembered as “one of the greats” following her funeral in Dublin.

The service for the 81-year-old was held at St Catherine’s Church on Meath Street earlier, followed by a private burial.

Fricker made history in 1990 when she became the first Irish actress to win an Academy Award, taking home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Christy Brown’s mother in My Left Foot.
