Dr. Marcus De Brun is a General Practitioner based in North Dublin, Ireland. He has served as the principal GP of his own medical practice and was appointed as member of the Irish Medical Council in 2018 until he resigned in 2020, citing dissatisfaction with the Council’s handling of nursing home protections during the pandemic and broader systemic issues regarding Ireland’s Covid-19 response.
Dr. de Brun now faces a fitness to practice hearing in the summer by the very same medical council he once served as a council member on. The Irish Medical Council is composed of 25 members in total. This includes 13 non-medical members and 12 medical members, giving the Council a majority of non-medical members.
The Irish Medical Council is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing the medical profession in Ireland. Its primary role is to protect the public by promoting and ensuring high standards among doctors registered to practice in Ireland.
