Activists gathered in Dublin to show solidarity with Palestine Action prisoners currently on hunger strike in the United Kingdom. Demonstrators held photographs of the detained activists, waved banners and chanted pro-Palestinian slogans, calling on the Irish government and the public to pay greater attention to the case.
Protesters criticised what they described as Ireland’s reluctance to challenge the UK, the European Union and the United States, and drew historical parallels with Ireland’s own hunger strikes of 1981. The demonstration comes as eight Palestine Action activists remain on hunger strike, with five reportedly hospitalised, and calls grow for their release and for Palestine Action to be removed from the UK’s list of proscribed organisations.
