Food price surge putting pressure on family budgets

A call has been made for state bodies to carry out a major investigation into soaring food inflation. Latest figures show the cost of food is rising at more than twice the level of general inflation. But the Government and other official bodies with responsibility for consumer and competition issues said there are no plans to investigate why grocery and food prices are shooting up at the moment.
