In this walk-and-talk video, I explore some of the historic aircraft that served with the Irish Defense Aviation including the Martinsyde Type 1 Mk.2 and the de Havilland Vampire, Ireland’s first jet aircraft. I also look at modern developments such as the acquisition of the C295 maritime patrol aircraft and the H145M helicopters.
We discuss the potential purchase of Korean FA-50 fighter aircraft and the broader question of how Ireland might develop its aviation capabilities in the years ahead.
I also revisit some of my previous videos discussing the future potential of Knock Airport and the concept of creating a unified fighter and aviation centre of excellence to support maritime aviation, training, and aerospace development.
