Heartbreak in Clare village as locals mourn mother and children who died in Fermanagh shooting
The bright sunshine belied the dark mood of heartbreak in the Clare village of Barefield.
A tightknit village where hurling and farming dominate the locality, residents fought back tears as they struggled to comprehend being at the centre of Irelandโs latest murder-attempted suicide.
Located just 6km from Ennis, residents of Barefield village could not comprehend how a Fermanagh shooting had virtually wiped out a young family with strong local connections.
The three victims of the Maguiresbridge shooting were named as Vanessa Whyte (45) and her two children, James Rutledge (14) and Sarah Rutledge (13).
All three died having suffered gunshot injuries at a property on the Drummeer Road on Wednesday morning in Maguiresbridge.
A man in his 40s who also suffered gunshot wounds remains in a serious condition in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
