Just days before last November’s general election was called, Ivan Yates was on RTÉ dissing Sinn Féin’s chances. The national broadcaster even picked out his downplaying of Mary Lou McDonald’s party as a highlight from the programme on which he appeared. Yates was in his busiest period working for Fianna Fáil at the time. He had just coached cabinet minister Norma Foley ahead of the election campaign.
