In a forested field along a quiet rural road near Moone in County Kildare, a springer spaniel named Charlie worked intently, circling a recently excavated patch of earth as he searched for signs of human remains.
Close by, a specialist search team observed the scene, standing beside a digger and holding tools like shovels and rakes. The trained cadaver dog pushed his nose deep into the soil and briefly settled into the spot, before quickly rising again and continuing his methodical sweep of the area.
