Ireland’s housing crisis is leaving young people priced out, facing eviction and questioning whether they can build a future in the country. One Dublin renter reveals she was given just 30 days’ notice to leave her home, while others admit they may never be able to afford a house.
Speaking on Grafton Street, members of the public describe friends and family moving to Australia, the US, London and Germany because of soaring rents, limited accommodation and unaffordable property prices. One woman says there is “no plan B” if she cannot secure a new home, while another believes buying in Ireland is now completely out of reach.
The public also shares divided views on who is responsible and what could solve the crisis, from stronger rental protections and increased housing supply to property taxation and wider government reform.
