Irish Water Crisis

“Work load of a County Councillor is phenomenal and abolition of Town Council’s is one biggest mistake’s made by any Government.” Cllr Jim Ryan.

Tipperary’s Thurles Independent Cllr Jim Ryan tells the Irish Political Roundup ”the abolition (in 2014) of the District and Town Councils, have seen powers taken away from county councillors, which is a national scandal and the biggest mistake made by any government’.

Additionally says Cllr Ryan, the County Councillors are doing all their own the secretarial work, making representations, phone calls, research, issuing statements, attending council meetings which is basically doing the work of a TD, without the help of parliamentarian assistants and secretaries to do all this for them’.

When asked by the Irish Political Roundup ”What’ is Cllr Jim Ryan hearing on the ground”, Cllr Ryan replied ”how long have you got”?

People are frustrated trying to get on housing lists, along with houses to rent,” says Thurles independent County Councillor, adding, ”Water infrastructure is a big issue.

Cllr Ryan explains that in ”2024, in Thurles town, 120 housing unit development was refused Planning Permission by Tipperary County Council, due to lack of waste water and water treatment facilities, showing once again how the water crisis and housing crisis are very much connected”.
