An Garda Síochána has launched an international manhunt for 28-year-old Jordanian national Ahmad Al-Saqar, who is the prime suspect in the murder of American citizen Jamey Carney.The Murder InvestigationOn Tuesday, 7 July 2026, the body of 43-year-old Jamey Carney (also referred to by locals as Jamie Kearney) was discovered at her rented residence on Muckross Road in Killarney, County Kerry. Investigators determined that she had been brutally beaten and suffocated to death on her bed, with her body subsequently covered by a duvet. The tragic discovery was made by a family friend after Ms Carney’s 13-year-old daughter grew highly concerned for her welfare. Following a completed post-mortem examination by the State Pathologist, the case was formally upgraded to a murder investigation.The Suspect and His FlightThe prime suspect, Ahmad Al-Saqar, is a Middle Eastern asylum seeker who arrived in Ireland in mid-2024 and was residing at an International Protection Accommodation Services (IPAS) centre in Killarney. He was known to Ms Carney through local activism, and the two were reportedly in a relationship, with Al-Saqar having previously referred to her as his “bride”.Gardaí tracking his movements established that Al-Saqar managed to flee Ireland hours before Ms Carney’s body was even discovered. His timeline of escape includes:Tuesday, 3:00 AM: Boarded a commercial coach from Killarney direct to Dublin Airport.Tuesday, 10:30 AM: Boarded an international flight from Dublin Airport to Istanbul, Turkey, subsequently continuing into the Middle East.Tuesday, 1:20 PM: Ms Carney’s body was officially discovered by a family friend, meaning the suspect already had a multi-hour head start out of the country.
