Electricity price rises last year mean Ireland again has the highest household charges in the EU.
The hikes have forced the average household in this country to pay around €480 a year more for their electricity compared with the EU average.
Research from the EU statistical agency Eurostat shows consumer prices here are higher than in Germany and Belgium, which are the next most expensive.
Prices per kilowatt hour in this country are more than 40pc above the EU average.
