Irish Abuse Survivor David Ryan Meets Pope Leo XIV After Clerical Abuse

Irish abuse survivor David Ryan share his powerful story after becoming the first survivor of clerical abuse to have a private audience with Pope Leo XIV.

David and his late brother Mark were repeatedly abused while attending Blackrock College in the 1970s and 80s, and he speaks openly about the grooming, the trauma that shaped his life, and the years of silence before he finally came forward. In this emotional interview, David reflects on meeting the Pope, the apology he received, and why he believes speaking out is vital for other survivors.

He is joined by Deirdre Kenny, CEO of One in Four, who discusses the ongoing support available for victims of childhood sexual abuse and the importance of accountability, awareness and protecting future generations.
