The UK is shutting a lucrative loophole that enabled Irish people who once worked there to cheaply boost their British state pension entitlements by thousands of euro a year.
Anyone who once lived in the UK will have to pay five times more to top up their British state pension record from next year.
It follows changes introduced last week by Rachel Reeves, the UK’s chancellor of the exchequer.
