IRISH MAN DISARMS SIKH CARRYING KNIFE; Gardaí say ‘it’s his religion, he’s allowed to’

IRELAND – In Ireland, a Sikh kirpan, a ceremonial dagger, is permitted to be carried as part of religious observance, though it is not officially written into the law. This is based on the “reasonable excuse” provision of the 1990 Act, which allows for the carrying of knives or other articles in a public place, and is a practice that is generally up to the discretion of the Gardai.
