Claire Byrne’s surprise decision to jump ship to Newstalk has thrown a major spanner in the works for RTÉ when it comes to filling the Liveline slot.
RTÉ will announce Joe Duffy’s replacement “in the coming weeks” as RTÉ Radio 1’s schedule undergoes a revamp, starting with David McCullagh taking over Byrne’s show.
An insider has insisted that Byrne’s upcoming move to the rival station means that Joe Duffy’s replacement “has to be a woman”.
