Virginia, Co. Cavan was rocked by serious public-order violence after disorder reportedly began around Lough Ramor and spilled into the town.
Five male juveniles were arrested, several people required hospital treatment, and Gardaí appealed for witnesses and footage. Local eyewitness accounts also claim that a knife was involved and that members of the public were attacked while trying to intervene, although not every detail circulating online has yet been officially confirmed.
In this video, I examine what is known, what remains unverified, the footage from the scene, and why another violent incident involving groups of youths has caused such alarm in an otherwise quiet Irish town.
This video contains commentary on a developing news story. Allegations remain allegations unless and until confirmed by Gardaí or tested in court.
