The trial of Lindsay Clancy has brought renewed attention to postpartum psychosis, a rare but serious mental health condition that can occur after childbirth.
Boston Herald reporter Colleen Cronin explains the case and the central question surrounding Clancy’s mental state, while Dr Richard Duffy, Perinatal Psychiatrist at the Rotunda Hospital, explains what postpartum psychosis is, how it differs from postnatal depression and OCD, the warning signs families should know and how it can be treated.
They also discuss the support available in Ireland and the lack of dedicated mother-and-baby psychiatric units.
