An Irish national who authorities say spearheaded a sophisticated construction scam targeting elderly homeowners across the East Coast was sentenced Tuesday to 56 months in federal prison.
John O’Brien, 28, pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a predatory operation that defrauded more than 100 victims of an estimated $1.5 million. Federal prosecutors described a scheme involving at least four co-conspirators who used fraudulent addresses, fake license plates, and overseas bank accounts to evade capture while O’Brien posed as a licensed contractor.
