It’s a sign of the times, quite literally, at St James’s Gate Brewery as a new year brings changes to its famous arch.
While many around the country will be raising a glass of the black stuff to welcome in 2026, a sign displaying the new year will be raised at the Dublin landmark to replace the old 2025 one.
To the left of the brewery’s arch is a plaque bearing 1759, the year Guinness was founded, while the current year is displayed on a sign on the right. The job of changing the sign from 2025 to 2026 falls to two local carpenters, Robbie Minto and Eoghan Kelly, a task they have undertaken every year since 2008.
