Taoiseach Micheál Martin vowed to “prioritise human life” as he visited Enniscorthy today to survey the flood damage inflicted on local homes and businesses.
In the early hours of last Tuesday, the Wexford town was engulfed in water after the River Slaney burst its banks during Storm Chandra, sending residents and business owners scrambling to save their homes and premises. It was the 16th time since 2001 that Enniscorthy had experienced serious flooding.
Many residents are demanding assurances that this will be the last time they will have to throw their belongings into skips or face the expensive repair costs.
