Ireland is preparing to join a new EU–Nigeria returns agreement—intended to make it easier to return Nigerian nationals who have **no legal right to remain**.
Sounds obvious, doesn’t it? Yet Ireland’s previous arrangement with Nigeria dates back to 2001—and was never formally ratified by Nigeria!
Jim O’Callaghan says rejected applicants must face “consequences.” Grand. In this video, I examine the proposed deal, the actual removal figures, Ireland’s overwhelming 2004 citizenship referendum result—and the enormous difference between issuing a deportation order and actually enforcing one.
This concerns failed applicants with no lawful right to stay—not Nigerians legally living in Ireland.
Will the Government finally enforce its own decisions—or is this merely another very impressive press release?
