This week we’ve only got 48 hours left in Ireland… and no one told us about this forgotten capital hiding in plain sight 😳🚐
What starts as our final Monopoly roll turns into one of the biggest surprises of the whole trip… with castles, medieval streets, skeletons, lucky clovers, a very questionable park up and something we really didn’t expect to find.
We’ve taken our motorhome across the Irish Sea to Ireland with our four kids, but instead of planning a normal route, we’ve been playing Monopoly All-Ireland Edition in REAL LIFE.
Every morning, we roll the dice, and wherever we land… that’s where we have to drive to immediately.
And this time, for our last Monopoly roll of the trip, we land on a Community Chest card that sends us to Kilkenny Castle.
So in this episode, we leave Wexford and head to Kilkenny, a place we honestly probably wouldn’t have chosen ourselves… but it turns out to be one of our favourite places of the whole trip.
We find a €10 motorhome park-up right in the city centre, with no electric hook-up but enough to make it work with our Jackery and solar. And after chatting to our neighbours for far too long, we quickly realise Kilkenny is not a place we can rush.
It feels like a proper medieval city, with Kilkenny Castle, old streets, a beautiful river walk, market streets, local shops, a craft fair, a chapel museum with tombs and skeletons, and somehow… three four-leaf clovers in the graveyard 🍀
We also manage to squeeze in a bakery stop, bowling with the kids, a jukebox situation in Eddie Rocket’s, and plenty of normal family chaos along the way 😂
What started as final trip across Ireland became two days in a city we knew almost nothing about, and honestly, Kilkenny completely surprised us.
This is family motorhome life… four kids, one motorhome, no proper plan, a city centre park-up, medieval streets, castles, skeletons, lucky clovers, and us wondering how we’d made it a week letting a Monopoly board decide our road trip 😂
