No such thing as a quiet week in Irish Politics

Just when we were expecting a relatively quiet week in Irish politics, Paschal Donohoe dropped a bombshell on Tuesday morning when he announced he was stepping down from public service to take up a new job with the World Bank in Washington. With the former Finance Minister being one of the most senior and respected politicians in the country, the knock-on effects for government and the Fine Gael party are seismic, with Tanaiste Simon Harris stepping into the finance role himself. Also, with a Dublin Central by-election on the horizon, could Gerry Hutch reemerge as a contender?

Also this week we saw Ivan Yates appear before an Oireachtas Media Committee following the controversy that he coached Jim Gavin during the presidential election. As well as that, The Peter McVerry Trust appeared before the Public Accounts Committee in regards to their finances.

Political Reporter Tabitha Monahan and Political Correspondent Cónal Thomas discuss all of the above on this week’s Indo Politics.
