The number of drivers arrested for drug driving is now almost the same as for drink driving, figures released by gardaí have shown.
Of the 170 arrests in the last week for driving while intoxicated 56pc were for alcohol and 44pc were for drugs.
Gardaí are continuing with their dedicated road traffic enforcement operation throughout the Christmas period which began on December 1 and will continue until January 5.
