Paskvan Podcasts: 15,000 Crabs Escape a Truck in Ireland and a Bank Robber Leaves a Huge Tip

Paskvan Podcasts is back with another completely ridiculous edition of News from the Weird Wire, where the headlines are real, the situations are insane, and somehow it all makes perfect sense by the end.

We’re starting in Ireland, where one truck driver had the worst day imaginable and 15,000 crabs had the best day of their lives. A truck carrying roughly 15,000 crabs crashed while traveling through County Donegal, and the entire load spilled out into a nearby field. These crabs weren’t just any crabs either. They were worth nearly $70,000 and were headed to shops and restaurants in Portugal. Instead, they ended up making a break for freedom across the Irish countryside like some kind of seafood jailbreak.

A recovery team showed up and described the scene as “very unusual,” because the crabs had spilled out of their containers and were actively trying to escape into the fields. It took up to 10 people and about 18 hours of chasing, scooping, bagging, and reloading to recover about 95% of them. Which means the other 5% are still out there… roaming free… living their best crab lives. And if you’re ordering crab in Portugal anytime soon, just remember… there’s a chance it spent the last day and a half in an Irish field.

Then we head to Utah for a story that proves some criminals are not built for this lifestyle. Police say a man robbed a bank in West Jordan by handing the teller a note claiming he was armed and demanding $1,000. He didn’t get anywhere close to that. He walked out with about $140. But here’s the part that makes this Weird Wire gold: he immediately went to a local Mexican restaurant, bought nearly $20 worth of food, and then left the rest of the money as a tip.
