Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is calling on Prime Minister Mark Carney to recall Parliament and release the proposed U.S. trade agreement that Canada ultimately rejected.
Speaking in Windsor, Ontario, Poilievre argues that Canadians deserve to see what was on the table, what Washington demanded, and why Carney’s government ultimately walked away. He also calls for greater transparency over the cost of Canada’s retaliatory tariffs and demands a new economic plan to protect workers and businesses affected by the escalating trade dispute.
Poilievre says Conservatives are prepared to work with other parties to protect Canadian jobs, lower the cost of living and strengthen Canada’s negotiating position.
The comments come after Carney said the U.S. had asked too much and offered too little, suspending negotiations and announcing that Canada would match Washington’s new tariffs dollar-for-dollar.
