Prof Micheál Ó Siochru – Genocide? Oliver Cromwell and Ireland

The 3rd of a series of 4 public talks in March 2025 as part of the Talk with Trinity series held in Unit18, Trinity College Dublin. Micheál Ó Siochrú is Professor in Modern History at Trinity College Dublin. His research focuses on seventeenth century Irish political, constitutional, and military history, from the Ulster Plantation to the Jacobite Wars, situated in a broad European contextual framework. Micheál has published extensively on the topic, including the book, God’s Executioner: Oliver Cromwell and the conquest of Ireland. He was Principal Investigator on the 1641 Depositions project and the Down Survey of Ireland Project, as well as being a member of the editorial team that produced a new three-volume edition of Cromwell’s Letters and Papers for Oxford University Press. His latest project, funded by an Irish Research Council Senior Laureate Award, is on Ireland and the early English Atlantic Empire.
