Protests have erupted in Dublin, Ireland, following the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl by a man near a hotel used to house asylum seekers.

The protests initially began on Tuesday, with peaceful protests quickly turning violent as a police vehicle was set on fire.

A 26-year-old man, who cannot be named under the country’s rules for all sexual assault cases, allegedly committed the rape on Monday.

According to GB News, the man appeared in court on Tuesday and was charged with the alleged rape near the asylum seeker hotel.

In response to the alleged rape, hundreds of protesters appeared outside the hotel before clashing with the Irish police service, An Garda Síochána.
