A packed National Concert Hall pays tribute to one of the last great voices of the swing era.
A star of the Hollywood screen and Broadway stage, Rosemary Clooney received a standing ovation at the National Concert Hall in Dublin. Many people in the audience were finally getting to see the star perform live after waiting for decades.
For the 73-year-old singer, the concert was a sentimental homecoming. Rosemary Clooney was performing in Ireland, the birthplace of her grandparents, who had emigrated from Ireland separately before meeting and marrying in Kentucky, uniting the Guilfoyle and Clooney families.
With a career spanning 56 years, Rosemary Clooney has sung and recorded with Marlene Dietrich, Guy Mitchell, Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. She recalls with particular fondness the of Betty Haynes opposite Bing Crosby in the film ‘White Christmas’.
She is proud of her actor nephew George Clooney, though she jokes she is less impressed by his singing.
