Should We Stop Pretending Ireland is Fine? Immigration and Patriotism

This video is an in-depth, on-the-ground conversation about immigration in Ireland, immigration in the UK, and how both countries are managing rapid social change. Filmed in a Dublin park, I sit down with Ada Akpala, political commentator, who immigrated to the UK, and we talk about what long-term migration has meant for London communities, public services, neighbourhood identity, and everyday life. We explore what Ireland can learn from the UK’s experience, including integration, housing pressures, community cohesion, and how large cities adapt over time.

The discussion also looks at how different political groups talk about racism, why some issues gain attention while others don’t, and how international events — including what is happening in Nigeria — shape public conversations in the UK and Ireland. The aim is balanced, respectful insight: a real lived-experience perspective on multiculturalism, community change, integration challenges, social policy, communication between communities, and Irish–UK comparisons. This conversation focuses on understanding, clarity, and practical lessons rather than political conflict or sensationalism.

This video is an open, good-faith conversation based on personal experience. It does not promote discrimination, political hostility, or negativity toward any group. All topics discussed are approached respectfully for the purpose of public understanding and community insight.
