Today we explore one of Ireland’s most terrifying abandoned places — a huge haunted asylum left abandoned after almost 180 years of history.
Opened in 1833, this former psychiatric hospital once housed hundreds of patients within its enormous wards and corridors. Thousands of people passed through this institution during its lifetime, with many dying behind these walls from illness, disease and the harsh realities of institutional life.
Now abandoned, the asylum has become one of the creepiest locations we’ve explored in Ireland. Empty hospital wards, decaying patient rooms, dark corridors and remnants of its disturbing past remain frozen inside.
There are also stories of paranormal activity throughout the abandoned asylum, including unexplained footsteps, voices and the unsettling feeling of being watched.
