The man in the black cap slowly weaves his way through the side streets of Tralee. As he sets off on another day roaming, he carries a sports bag over his shoulder, filled with all his worldly possessions.
The last of the summer tourists, maps in hand and cameras poised, cross his path but take little notice.
But the locals – the shopkeepers and baristas – know who he is.
“He’s the suspect in the Mike Gaine case,” they say.
“The Yank.”
Michael Kelley (53), from Maine in the US, reluctantly agreed to talk about his connection with a case that has gripped the nation for much of the year.
