Teenage asylum seeker stabbed to death at Tusla facility in Dublin

The teenage asylum seeker stabbed to death in an apartment in North Dublin has been named locally as Vadym Davydenko.

Gardaí are set to launch a murder investigation after Mr Davydenko, who is understood to be originally from Ukraine, suffered stab wounds to his head, eyes, chest and hands following a sustained assault inside an upstairs apartment in Grattan Wood, Donaghmede, North Co Dublin on Wednesday morning.

The young victim, who was in this country seeking international protection, was stabbed to death in a home under the care of Tusla – the State’s Child and Family Agency.

Another youth and an adult woman were also injured during the course of the incident – both of whom were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí have identified a chief suspect in the incident – a young man who is also from another country, who was transported to hospital with injuries to his hand. It is understood he was to undergo treatment before detectives will seek to speak to him about the suspected murder.

It is understood the suspect was initially arrested at the scene after a violent struggle with unarmed Gardaí who arrived first. Sources told the Irish Mirror it is feared were it not for the actions of those brave members, others could have been seriously hurt or worse.
