Lets step back in time, Ireland in 1798. Following these years were over a century of suffering. Rebellion, separation, executions… you couldn’t imagine the struggles… all running up to The Great Hunger throughout the mid to late 1800s. It was a hard time for the Irish People.
One song that sums this up perfectly, a window back in time, is “The Wearing of the Green”. Popularised in modern day by The Wolfe Tones (they stand out the most to be fair) the song lives on to tell the story of the struggles the Irish People went through over 200 years ago.
This video aims to explain the story behind the song “The Wearing of the Green”, what does it mean? Who wrote it? etc. and also touching on the historical events behind it. 1798 rebellion, even the 1803 rebellion and just the general struggle of the normal every day people of that generation.
