VW Passat Estate Review – Is THIS the Car That Saves Volkswagen? (2.0 TDI Elegance)
There’s a lot of bad news at the moment when it comes to this famous badge — up to 100,000 jobs expected to be lost at Volkswagen. But when you look at the new Passat, you kind of think to yourself, what’s the problem?
I’ve been wafting around in this Passat all week doing 4.6L per 100km, watching the fuel gauge range actually increase on a motorway. It really got me thinking about the brand. And maybe this is what VW do best.
Underneath the skin, it’s actually a Škoda — built where Škoda build Škodas, sharing its platform with the Superb. The rear space is gigantic. The interior in this car would embarrass most of the latest VW models, particularly the electric ranges which had scratchy plastic and lost buttons. This could be out of an Audi. In fact, it’s probably better than Audi are doing right now.
So often VW talk about their secret sauce — for me, this is their secret sauce. Amazing interiors, huge range, looks nice. It doesn’t necessarily stand out, but it’s a VW. Welcome back, Passat. You’ve been missed.
