The Plantations of Ireland

From the mid-1500s to the early 1600s, Ireland underwent a series of aggressive colonisation schemes known as the Plantations. Backed by the English Crown, vast tracts of land were confiscated from native Gaelic lords and handed to English and Scottish settlers. This video tells the story of the Laois-Offaly, Munster, and Ulster Plantations—how they were planned, who profited from them, and how they reshaped Irish society, religion, and power forever.
