County Councillor Jim Ryan joined Paul Brophy of the Irish Political Roundup once again to discuss issues that are impacting the local people in Thurles in county Tipperary locally and nationally.
Bureaucracy:
โIts bureaucracy has gone to hell, and itโs probably one of the main reasons money is wasted in this country. We have so many bodies over one aspect of society.โ
We have the crazy situation that five state bodies are responsible for dealing with overgrowth in the River Suir here in Thurles
Cllr Ryan highlighs for the need for more common sense approach to how issues are dealt with in Ireland..

Biography Councillor Jim Ryan
Tipperary, Thurles, local electoral area Councillor Jim Ryan has been a public representative since 1999 when he was first elected to the now abolished Thurles Urban District Council as a Fianna Fail candidate.
In 2004, Jim resigned from Fianna Fail and has been an independent councillor ever since. Having been returned as an elected Independent member of Tipperary County Council in 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019, Jim topped the poll in the Thurles Local Electoral Area in June 2024 with 2,435 first preference votes, taking the first seat.
In October 2024 Cllr Ryan announced that he would contest the General Election in the North Tipperary North West Kilkenny Constituency which was held on November 29th 2025 Cllr Ryan, received 3,475 First Preference Votes and was the last candidate to be eliminated in the Three Seat Constituency.
Over the last 26 years Councillor Ryan who also runs his own Accountancy Practice in Thurles Town has built up a proven strong track record of working hard and representing Constituents in Thurles and surrounding communities in North Tipperary by bringing a common sense approach to his role as an elected public representative.
