Trinity law graduate found guilty of causing the death of UL student on Greek Island

A Trinity College Dublin law graduate has been found guilty of causing the death a University of Limerick student after a confrontation on the Greek island of Ios.

Joseph Patrick Connolly (24), from Rostrevor, Co Down, was found guilty of using fatal bodily harm when he punched Niall O’Brien (21), in the ­early hours of August 30, 2021.

Connolly was found guilty last Tuesday after a 12-hour court hearing in Ermoupoli, on the island of Syros. He received a six-year sentence but was released on bail pending an appeal. The Sunday Independent was the only Irish media present for the trial.
