UK Living in Ireland: Can I Get Citizenship?

In today’s video, I’m diving into the process of Irish citizenship from the perspective of a British expat. While I haven’t applied yet, I’m currently exploring my options—and I wanted to share everything I’ve learned so far with you.

Whether you’re thinking about relocating, already living in Ireland, or just curious about what it takes to become an Irish citizen this video covers:

Why I’m considering Irish citizenship
The different routes to apply (naturalization, descent, marriage, etc.)
Residency requirements
What I’m planning next

Have you applied for Irish citizenship, or are you thinking about it? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear your experience.

Here are some useful websites, you must register with the online portal below to start the application process:
Irish Citizenship Online Portal

Citizenship Applications can now be made online

Hint: When you are applying through the portal you will need to gather all documents such as passport, birth cert, marriage cert (if applicable) proof of address. Not only this but you need to identify 3 Irish citizens as potential referees. Some of your documentation such as passport will need to be declared as authentic by a solicitor (also a spousal report must be completed and witnessed if you are going down the marriage route). Please consider this when preparing your application and the additional costs this will involve!
