Every summer, one Irish town becomes the center of the traditional music universe – and that event is the Fleadh Cheoil. With competitions, spontaneous sessions, world records, and crowds in the hundreds of thousands, (650,000 in 2024!) the Fleadh is a living, breathing celebration of Irish culture.
(Fleadh was recently held in Drogheda, Mullingar, Ennis, Sligo and Derry (first time in northern Ireland!))
In this video, I take you on a journey through the history, heart, and global impact of the Fleadh Cheoil. From its beginnings in 1951 Mullingar, to record-breaking crowds in Ennis, Mullingar, Wexford in 2024 and, to the upcoming 2025 Fleadh again held in Wexford (potentially breaking another record) – this is the full picture. We explore regional styles, musical rivalries, FleadhFest, and the cultural forces that have shaped the Fleadh into what it is today.
If you’ve ever wondered how Irish music stayed so strong, or why the Fleadh is a must-experience event—this video has it all.
