Why Were the Irish Hated in Britain?

For generations, Irish people crossed the Irish Sea to work in Britain. They brought in the harvest, built roads and houses, and did some of the hardest jobs in the economy. Yet they were often met with suspicion, hostility, and exclusion.

This video explores the history of anti-Irish prejudice in Britain, and the deeper forces that shaped it: colonialism, sectarianism, and class prejudice.

From the Great Hunger to anti-Irish agitation in Liverpool, from seasonal labour migration to the Troubles, this is the story of how the Irish became essential to Britain, but were never fully accepted within it.
